Music labels, large and small, invest around $5 billion a year in music talent, support a global roster of thousands of artists and typically spend $1 million to break successful pop acts in major markets
While the music industry has increased its digital revenues by 940 percent since 2004, the online theft of music has been a major factor behind the overall global market decline of around 30 percent in the same period
Whether it involves music, movies, books or software, the theft of intellectual property is a big problem that’s attracting widespread attention. Be it stories about the impact of illegal downloading to opinions about how much legal music should cost online to why P2P networks can be dangerous and pose a privacy threat, people from all walks of life are voicing their opinions about online downloading. Check out some of the conversation here.
